Working by use of computer technologies is expanding to more and more areas of our life.
Originally it was conceived for data processing. But further developments spread out on desktops, laptops, tablets, handhelds and smartphones.

However, our desire for even smaller and less expensive devices requires a thorough analysis of the surrounding conditions. Especially tablets or handhelds have to be checked for their robustness.
Working outdoors, in mobile jobs or in industrial applications, the devices require top ruggedized characteristics.

A harmless drop on a concrete floor, an impact resistance, a high ambient temperature (max./min.) and a long lasting endurance of the battery is necessary as well as an optimum in readout quality; display resolution, brightness and non glaring quality.

Also a sufficient number of touch points and an adequate size of the numeric characters is essential. Finally the display must be scratch-resistive, tight against water, oil or chemical contamination of the air. Furthermore an adequate number of interfaces and their possible functions are basic requirements for industrial tablets and handhelds.
So all of these qualities require a higher operating expense compared with standard office devices.
